1. Party the night away on her generous social areas
And slide back the sides of her pilothouse to open her up to the outside
The MJM 50z is a 15.24-metre powerboat crafted both for zooming around on the water at her top cruising speed of 35 knots and living comfortably on board. The vision of founder Bob Johnstone – the man behind J/Boats – the MJM 50z is designed by Zurn Yacht Design and built by Boston Boat Works. She is the largest of the boats by this US builder and places a serious significance on technology, advanced design and materials and enjoying your time out on the sea.
Entertainment is a key element of enjoying your time on board, and the MJM 50z boasts 50% more party space than other yachts of her size. She is designed around the best way to entertain guests, which means she has a social area on deck that spans her flush deck from the stern to the helm and offers the ability to separate the aft exterior from the bridge deck should you want to divide the group. Below, there’s a third social area called the Great Room, which is spacious and comfortable with an open galley.
To add to her appealing unique design features, the safety glass sides of the pilothouse slide open, which, along with opening electric front windows, exposes half the boat to the environment. Described as a summer porch, this is one of the ways the MJM 50z offers more space than similar yachts, and it contributes to a relaxing and pleasant ambience below deck.
2. Relax in comfort
And unwind on her moveable aft seating
The MJM 50z is styled in a way that exudes sophisticated elegance and recreates the feel of a Herreshoff yacht. The shared spaces, both above and below deck, are neatly presented with relaxed seating that is comfortable.
One of the standout features of the MJM 50z is her flexible arrangement, thanks to movable aft stern seats, which allow you to reconfigure the seating and welcome more guests on board.
Below deck is a pleasant space, made bright and airy thanks to the fact that she has 50% more opening hull ports, port lights and overhead hatches than normal. These design features all work together to flood her saloon with natural light, illuminating her elegant styling and creating an enjoyable atmosphere.
Her interior features elegant cherry wood cabinetry, panels and accent trim with a teak and holly sole. The finish is simple, offering a blend of textures with her UltraLeather upholstery that has a butter-soft feel, a high-gloss table and the satin finish of the cherry wood.
All these elements make the MJM 50z a great example of a practical, livable powerboat that is elegant without being pretentious.
3. Enjoy enhanced privacy
And relax in different parts of the yacht
One of the clever ways the MJM 50z has been designed is that she offers comfort and privacy for a cruising couple.
The layout of the yacht encourages an open flow through the powerboat, but each social space is separate and self-contained. This allows someone to relax in the master cabin in the easy chair or work at the desk while another can work in the Great Room whilst seated at the table, or be up in the pilothouse.
It also means you can float between party spots and private areas, giving you the choice to enjoy the MJM 50z in whatever way fits your fancy.
4. Get a great night’s sleep
And invite guests to stay in the guest cabin in the Great Room
At first glance, the MJM 50z only has one cabin, but she can actually house up to nine people at any time. Instead of limiting space by building fixed walls for guest cabins that won’t be used the whole time, the MJM 50z has dual-purpose areas that can be transformed into berths when needed.
Her Great Room can accommodate two in foot-to-foot single beds or in a double berth that’s created by lowering the electric table and adding filler cushions. A heavy linen Pullman privacy curtain can divide the Great Room to create privacy for the sleeping area from the galley. For greater privacy, the real innovation is her portable bulkhead system that creates an en suite guest cabin as demonstrated in this video.
As an option, the starboard head can be replaced with a single en suite cabin, or as an over/under bunk. The pilothouse also transforms into a double to starboard and a single to port.
But it’s not just the transformative approach to her layout that will help you enjoy a great night’s sleep on board; it’s also her engineering. The MJM 50z features a Seakeeper gyrostabilizer as standard. Aside from reducing rolling when underway, this technology vastly improves the experience of sleeping on board.
