At the Dock

Think of the MJM 43zi layout as an airy summer porch. Opening side windows, opening windshields, an expansive bimini to shade the cockpit. Deep cushioned settees and helm/navigator chairs provide lots of seating on a flush deck that keeps everyone close. No heavy wooden furniture to drag around. No exterior teak to fret over. Instead, MJM puts the warm cherry accents where they need no special care-in the welcoming cabin below. There, there is a high-functioning galley, private head with enclosed shower, a real master cabin with a beamy bunk, work station and easy chair. And the main cabin seating area is perfect for that private breakfast before leaving the marina in the morning. Light and air flood the interior through opening ports and hatches, and through the generous hullside windows. This is a boat for weekend, a week or season aboard.

Underway

From the moment you enter through the side boarding doors, until the moment you tie up with an easy lean out the side window to lasso your line to a cleat on the dock, you will enjoy the easy, responsive nature of the 43zi. Doug Zurn designed this modified deep-V planing hull with generous Carolina bow flare for dealing with steep following or head seas without yawing or burying the bow. For exceptional stability and planing performance, deadrise aft is 19 degrees, carried forward 13 feet, then warped into a 50+ degree deadrise at the cutwater with dual lifting strakes and chine flats. This shape creates the driest, most stable-running boat of its type. Advanced construction helps lower vertical center of gravity (VCG), so she’ll carve into turns, rather than lean outwards like motor yachts with taller, heavier superstructures. The 43zi won’t roll in the harbor or have the delayed response to the wheel in a seaway experienced by “classic” or even new deep-V designs. And, you won’t need a flybridge to see where you’re going. The 43zi accelerates flat without that blinding bow rise that can be unsafe in the 10-15 knot range when threading through crowded waterways.
