Looking for Women's Boating Classes Near You? MJM Yachts Launches She's the Captain

Created by women for women, She's the Captain is a free, new hands-on boating program from MJM Yachts designed to help women feel confident, capable, and comfortable at the helm. Unlike online or classroom-only courses, it combines real on-the-water instruction with small group sizes and personalized time behind the wheel.
To lead the program, MJM has partnered with Captain Lauren Warren, a U.S. Coast Guard licensed captain, founder of Upper Chesapeake Boat School, and one of a small number of female licensed captains teaching on-water courses in the country.

What Is She's the Captain?
She's the Captain is designed for all experience levels, whether you've never touched a wheel or simply want to feel more independent at the helm. Classes are intentionally small so every participant gets real time operating the boat, not just watching.

Where Can I Find a Hands-On Boating Safety Class Near Me?
Many boating safety courses today are offered online or in classroom settings with limited real-world experience at the helm.
She's the Captain was created to provide something different: practical, on-the-water boating instruction taught in a supportive environment designed specifically for women.
Classes are hosted through participating MJM Yachts dealers and owner events across multiple regions of the United States.
Why Did MJM Yachts Create a Women's Boating Program?
At MJM Yachts, we believe confidence on the water comes from experience, support, and time behind the wheel, not just sitting in a classroom. She's the Captain gives women a place to ask questions, learn at their own pace, and walk away feeling ready to take the helm on their own.
Why Hands-On Boating Confidence Matters
For many families, boating becomes more enjoyable when multiple people feel comfortable operating the boat.
Whether docking at a marina, navigating changing weather conditions, or simply taking the helm for the afternoon, confidence creates freedom on the water.
The goal of She's the Captain is not simply to teach boating skills, it is to help women feel empowered and comfortable creating their own experiences on the water.
Who Is Captain Lauren Warren?
Captain Lauren Warren is a U.S. Coast Guard licensed captain and founder of Upper Chesapeake Boat School. She grew up on the Chesapeake Bay and began teaching because she saw too many capable women sitting in the passenger seat, not because they couldn't handle a boat, but because no one had ever put the wheel in their hands and said, "You've got this."
With more than two decades of on-water experience, she is known for teaching confidence as much as technique.
"Every woman I've taught who says she's 'not a boater' is usually operating the boat on her own by the end of the day," Warren said. "It's not about experience. It's about getting the right instruction in the right environment."
